Improving Safety Across a Multi-Campus School District

Overview

A mid-sized county school district in the Southeast, serving approximately 28,000 students across 42 campuses, was facing increasing challenges maintaining consistent security across its facilities. While most schools had fixed camera systems indoors, large outdoor areas and temporary events remained difficult to monitor effectively.

To address these gaps, the district partnered with Reconview to deploy mobile surveillance towers and mobile security camera trailers, creating a flexible security solution that could be used daily and scaled for high-demand situations.

The Challenge

Despite having baseline security infrastructure, the district struggled with several real-world issues:

  • Large, unmonitored parking lots at high schools with 500+ vehicles daily
  • After-hours activity on campuses, including unauthorized gatherings and vandalism
  • Athletic events drawing 1,000–3,000 attendees with limited visibility for staff
  • Frequent need to shift security resources between campuses based on incidents or events

In one instance, repeated vehicle break-ins at a high school parking lot highlighted the lack of visibility in areas beyond fixed camera reach. Additionally, graduation season required temporary coverage at multiple outdoor venues in a short timeframe. The district needed a solution that could:

  • Deploy quickly without construction or wiring
  • Be moved between campuses as needs changed
  • Provide both active monitoring and a visible deterrent
  • Fit within an already constrained security budget

The Solution

Reconview recommended a combination of manned surveillance towers and mobile security camera trailers to extend coverage where fixed systems were insufficient.

Manned Surveillance Towers

  • Positioned during high-traffic events like football games and graduations
  • Provided elevated, wide-area visibility across parking lots and entry points
  • Staffed with trained personnel to monitor activity and coordinate with on-site administrators
  • Acted as a high-visibility deterrent, reducing disruptive behavior

Mobile Security Camera Trailers

  • Deployed to campuses experiencing recurring issues such as vandalism or unauthorized access
  • Equipped with HD cameras and remote monitoring access for district security staff
  • Solar-powered, allowing placement in parking lots and remote areas without power access
  • Easily relocated between schools based on weekly priorities

Results

Reduced Incidents in Key Areas: Within the first semester, schools using mobile trailers reported a noticeable drop in parking lot thefts and vandalism.

Strong Visual Deterrent: Administrators noted that the presence of surveillance towers during events led to fewer behavioral issues and smoother crowd control.

Increased Flexibility: Instead of requesting permanent camera installations, principals could request temporary deployments based on current needs.

Faster Response and Better Awareness: Security teams gained real-time visibility into areas that were previously blind spots, improving coordination with campus staff and local law enforcement.

Cost Savings: By using mobile assets across multiple campuses, the district avoided the expense of installing permanent infrastructure at every location.

Conclusion

By integrating Reconview’s mobile surveillance towers and mobile security camera trailers, the district moved beyond a static security model and adopted a flexible, demand-driven approach to campus safety.

The ability to deploy, relocate, and scale coverage based on real conditions has given district leaders greater confidence in their security strategy while providing staff, students, and families with a safer environment across all campuses.
